It can either be a complete or incomplete injury if it's complete spinal cord injury it can't send signals below the level of the injury. That's when you become paralyzed. If it's incomplete you have some movement and sensation below the injury. Spinal cord injuries are medical emergencies, immediate treatment can reduce long term effects. Some treatments may include medicines, braces or traction to stabilize the spine and surgery. Later treatments usually include medicines and rehabilitation therapy. Most people end up with mobility aids and assistive devices. I chose this injury because I was really interested in finding out what happens to cause someone to be partially or fully paralyzed.
